Since last autumn, we have been holding a “Sports Day for Young Foreigners” once a month. Today was Table Tennis Day.
We had six participants from five Asian countries: India, Thailand, China, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
Some participants said they had played table tennis since childhood, while others said it was their first time even holding a racket, though they had seen the sport before. It seems the popularity of table tennis varies quite a bit depending on the country.
We began with self-introductions. After everyone shared their name and home country, we explained the basic rules and how to play. Then we divided into small groups and started playing. By switching opponents, everyone had the chance to play with many different people.
The joy of shouting “Yes!” when things go well, and the frustration of saying “Oh no!” when they don’t—those feelings are universal. Even though we come from different countries, we all enjoyed our time together.
Next month’s event will be “Badminton Day.” March 22 (Sun), 13:00–15:00
